Dylan's Art
On this page I will be posting all of my art work that I do throughout the semester. I hope everyone will like my work. Thank you so much for viewing.
Art for Change
I decided I wanted to do another linoleum tile printmaking artwork. I also had to incorporate it with a world issue. I had a tough time deciding what I wanted to do my issue on until I thought of global warming. Global warming is a real thing. The earth gets mildly warmer every decade. I remember when I was a kid, there was snow on the ground all winter long and when one went ice fishing they always needed and extender on the auger to get through the ice. Now when it snows, Minnesota does not get nearly as much snow and the ice is not very thick at all.
In my carving I carved out the world and then drew flames underneath it. The fire represents the warming of earth. The fire is warm so it warms the earth. Then on both the left and right side of the earth I put a thermometer. The right side thermometer reads warmer to show that it gets warmer over time. One mistake I made was carving the continents on the earth the right way which caused the printing to me backwards. When I realized I had made this mistake, it was too late.

- For this clay project we had to make a maquette out of clay. This maquette is supposed to represent a part of myself. I chose to make a four wheeler tire to represent my passion for four wheelers. I love riding four wheelers and being around them. I have been riding four wheelers since I was about 4 years old and just kept getting bigger four wheelers.
Automatic Drawing With Charcoal
This automatic drawing was introduced to me and I thought that it was crazy. I was literally supposed to draw random lines all over the place using charcoal; black, grey, and colored. Starting this project I drew random lines all over the place, like I was supposed too. It was a lot of fun to make this art but messy at the same time. My biggest challenge with this art work was just freeing myself up. It was the first time that I did not have to sketch in my sketch book before I started on the final print. It was also the first time I did not have to have an idea in mind.
Value of Words
For this project my goal was to make a picture or design using only words and shading. If I wrote smaller and darker words next to each other it makes that area look darker. Whereas if I took words and wrote them bigger and lighter, it made that area look lighter. The first step I took was to lightly shade my out line. Once that was done I could start applying words making the words on the outside darker and the words on the inside lighter. In some areas I used a pen to really make it stand out and really look dark.
I chose to outline the front of the US bank stadium where the Minnesota Vikings play. I am a big fan of them so I wanted show that in my art project. This art piece is for support of them and all about them. In the outline and dark area, I listed the teams starting and backup roster. Then in one of the spaces I listed most of the coaches involved with the team. In another space I started with some of the team’s records and eventually moved on to the best players that have ever played for the Vikings. In the same space as the last 2 items I listed the team's record all the way back to 1988. Moving on to the next space I named most of the other NFL teams that play in this stadium against the Minnesota Vikings. All of that makes up the stadium itself. With a pen I outlined the Minneapolis Skyline and named the tallest buildings in Minnesota and restaurants in the metropolitan area.
There is a big relationship between words and art. Words can be written about art or, in this case, be written in the art to make up a picture. Words can also make up a description of the art. I would say that every piece of art could use a description as to what exactly it is and why it was made. The description can also help point out little details as to what's in the art. Using words in the art work can be a challenge especially if there needs to be shading. I needed to shade my words so there is a distinct outline of the picture.

Technology through anatomy
This art piece shows a piece of technology paired with parts of the body. I chose to make a brain coming out of a chevy car stereo and veins fueling the stereo. I also wanted to work with colors and blending. The blending of colors shows dimensions, different textures, and even different surfaces.
The reasoning behind me choosing a Chevy stereo is because I drive a Chevy everyday with this exact stereo. The brain and a car stereo are a lot a like. They both need a lot of wires to be powered and both also power and control a lot of things. That's is why I chose to compare the brain and a car stereo. Then I also chose to have veins fueling the stereo and the brain. The blending of purple and grey shows the screen of the stereo, the blue and red show the veins, and the different shades of pink show dimensions of the brain.

Identity Collage Portrait
To start this project we had to find a picture of ourselves. After finding the perfect picture we then had to trace the picture from our phones on to a transparency. When we had the picture traced onto the transparency we put the transparency onto a projector and traced it onto the final piece of paper. Finally we could start cutting and gluing pieces onto the paper fitting them into their places. After all the pieces where glued onto the portrait we had to mod podge over the final project.
When you make a self portrait you get to choose how people get to see you. But when you just take a picture you can't choose anything. I decided to do the american flag in the background of my portrait because I am a huge american flag supporter. I love to show off the flag and that's how I wanted people to see me when they look at my self portrait.
